What is the BTCO GSM mobile starter module?

The BTCO GSM Module (also called the BTCO Mobile Control Unit) is a 4G GSM mobile motor controller for BTCO starters. It connects to the starter’s MPAU unit and uses its own SIM card, so your BTCO starter becomes a mobile starter: you can run and watch your borewell or submersible pump motor from your phone wherever you are, by the free BTCO Starters app or by SMS. No more walking to the pump house to switch the motor or to check whether there is power at the farm.

Remote motor control by app or by SMS

• BTCO Starters app (Android on Google Play; web app for iPhone): tap ON or OFF, see live readings, get push alerts, set timers and check logs. The app is free for life, with no subscription fee and no hidden charges.
• SMS: switch the motor ON or OFF and ask for its status by sending an SMS from your phone to the module’s SIM number.

What you can do from the app

• Switch the motor ON or OFF from any distance.
• See live voltage on all three lines (RY, YB, BR), current (IR, IY, IB) and the overload trip amps set. On single phase starters: input voltage, high/low voltage settings, output current, overload trip amps and dry run current.
• Change the overload trip amps: tap decrease or increase and choose the value.
• Turn Auto Switch on or off without going to the farm.
• Set one of 4 timer modes: Normal (run for a set time, then stop), Cyclic (ON and OFF in turns), RTC (up to 2 sessions a day by the clock) and Scheduler (a different schedule for each day).
• Get a notification every time the status changes: power cut, power restored, motor started, motor stopped, starter offline, dry run trip, overload trip and other faults.
• Check the last 7 days: hours the motor ran each day, hours of power cut each day, and a detailed status log.
• Control up to 100 starters from one app. Give each one a name, like “Mango Farm” or “Grape Farm”.
• Add any number of family members or farm helpers as users of a starter.
• On Combined starters, the 1Ph, 2Ph or 3Ph button lights up to match the power supply. Tap it to start the motor.

Which starters does it work with?

All BTCO starters with an MPAU unit, for 3 phase and single phase motors: DOL, Star Delta, Combined (1/2/3) DOL and Star Delta, and Single Phase starters. It does not work with starters from other brands.

App or SMS? GSM Modules bought after August 2025 work with both the app and SMS. Modules bought before August 2025 work by SMS only. Not sure which one you have? Call 08162256789.

How to get started

1. Buy the GSM Module from your nearest BTCO Starters dealer and have it fitted to your BTCO starter with a SIM card.
2. Download the BTCO Starters app from Google Play, or open the web app on iPhone.
3. Tap + Starter and enter a name for the starter, the GSM Module’s SIM number and the starter type (1Ph, 3Ph or Combined).

Frequently asked questions

Is the app free?
Yes, free for life. You only need the GSM Module fitted to your BTCO starter and a SIM card in it.

Which network does it use?
The module works on 4G with a SIM card inside it, so there must be mobile network at the pump.

Can I use it without a smartphone?
Yes. You can switch the motor ON or OFF and check its status by SMS from any mobile phone.

Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, iPhone users can use the BTCO web app at app.btcostarters.com.

Can more than one person control the motor?
Yes. Add any number of family members or farm helpers as users of a starter, and each can control it from their own phone.

Does it protect my motor?
Motor protection (dry run, overload, single phasing and more) is done by the MPAU in your BTCO starter. The GSM Module tells you on your phone when the starter trips and why.

Does it work with a 3 phase motor starter?
Yes. It works with every BTCO starter: 3 phase DOL and star delta, the Combined juice starters, and the single phase starter. It can be added later to BTCO starters bought from January 2024; for older starters, check with us or your dealer first.

What is a GSM motor controller?
A GSM motor controller lets you switch a pump motor ON and OFF from your phone over the mobile network. The BTCO GSM Module is one: fitted to your BTCO starter with its own 4G SIM, it gives you ON/OFF by app or SMS, timers, and alerts for power cuts, motor ON/OFF and trips, while the starter keeps protecting the motor from burning.

What is the warranty?
The GSM Module is fully covered by our one-year warranty against manufacturing defects. See Warranty & Claims.

Warranty against manufacturing defects from the date of sale: one year for starters and GSM modules, six months for capacitors.

• Starters: the warranty covers the BTCO MPAU unit inside the starter. Wiring, contactors and connectors are not covered.
• GSM Module: fully covered.
• Capacitors: six months.
• The warranty can be claimed only if the warranty sticker on the product is intact.
