BTCO FASD-2/3 is a combined (1/2/3) star delta starter for 3 phase double cable submersible and borewell pump motors from 7.5 to 25 HP. It runs the motor on normal 3 phase supply or on 2 phase supply, and the 7.5–10 HP variant also runs on the village juice line (series line). It starts the motor in star, switches to delta for full power, protects it from dry run, overload and earth faults, and works with the BTCO app if the mobile control module is attached.

Choose your variant: 7.5–10 HP, 12.5–15 HP, 20 HP or 25 HP.

How it runs a 3 phase motor on 2 phase supply

3 phase: when all three lines are healthy, it works like a normal fully automatic star delta starter.
2 phase: when a line is missing, the starter uses capacitors to make up the missing phase, so the 3 phase motor keeps running.
Star, then delta: on any supply, the motor starts in star to keep the starting current low, then switches to delta for full power.
Auto-adjusting capacitors: the starter switches the capacitors by itself and keeps checking them. If a capacitor fails, the display shows “Check Capacitor”.

Juice line only up to 10 HP: juice line is the reduced village supply where one line comes in at around 300 V and the other two are very low. Only the 7.5–10 HP variant runs on it, because running a bigger motor on juice line is not safe. None of the variants run on the 220 V single phase supply at home.

Automatic operation and monitoring

Auto ON / OFF on 3 phase and 2 phase (and juice line on the 7.5–10 HP variant), with an auto start delay after power returns (5 to 240 seconds, you set it)
Dry restart time: after a dry run trip, the starter waits for the time you set and then starts the motor again by itself, so the borewell has time to refill

Frequently asked questions

Will this starter run my motor on 2 phase supply?

Yes. All variants of the FASD-2/3 Combined starter run 3 phase double cable motors from 7.5 to 25 HP on 2 phase supply, and on normal 3 phase supply. It switches between them by itself.

Will it run on juice line (series line)?

Only the 7.5–10 HP variant runs on juice line, because running a bigger motor on juice line is not safe. The 12.5–15, 20 and 25 HP variants run on 2 phase and 3 phase supply. None of them run on the 220 V single phase supply at home.

Why star delta for my motor, and not DOL?

Bigger double cable motors draw a very high current if they are switched straight on. The Combined starter first runs the motor in star, which takes much less current, then switches to delta for full power. This matters even more on 2 phase supply, where the line is already weak. Single cable motors up to 10 HP can use the Combined DOL juice starter instead.

Which capacitors do I need?

Capacitors are sold separately. The right ones depend on your motor and the supply conditions at your farm, so our dealer or technician will choose them when the starter is installed. See BTCO capacitors.

Which variant should I choose for my motor?

Choose by your motor's HP: 7.5–10 HP, 12.5–15 HP, 20 HP or 25 HP. Each variant has the right contactors, relays and relay range for that size. If you need to run on juice line, choose the 7.5–10 HP variant. Tell us your motor's HP when you call and we'll confirm the right one.

Does the motor start again by itself when power comes back?

Yes. When power comes back, the starter waits for the auto start delay you have set (5 to 240 seconds) and then starts the motor on its own.

Does the motor start again by itself after a dry run trip?

Yes. You set a dry restart time on the starter. After a dry run trip it waits for that time, so the borewell can refill, and then starts the motor again on its own.

Does it have timers?

Combined starters have no built-in timers. Attach the BTCO GSM mobile control module and you can set timers in the free BTCO Starters app, as well as switch the motor ON or OFF and get alerts on your phone.

What do "Check Capacitor" and "Rotor Lock Trip" mean?

"Check Capacitor" means the starter found a problem with one of the capacitors. "Rotor Lock Trip" means the motor stalled or jammed while running on 2 phase or juice line, and the starter stopped it to protect it. Our error code video (in Kannada) explains what to check, or call your dealer.

Does the Combined star delta starter protect the motor from voltage fluctuation?

Yes. It trips on the current the motor draws, so when high or low voltage pushes the current out of the safe range, it stops the motor before it overheats. How voltage fluctuation protection works.

Does the Combined star delta starter have dry run protection?

Yes. It senses dry run from the motor current, with no sensor in the borewell, and stops the motor before it overheats. After the dry restart time you set, it starts the motor again by itself. Dry run protection explained.

Is a juice starter the same as a phase converter?

Farmers often call it a phase converter starter. It is not a separate converter box: the Combined starter itself runs your 3 phase motor on 2 phase or juice line, using capacitors chosen by your dealer, and protects the motor at the same time.

Up to what HP can I run a motor on juice line?

Up to 10 HP. The Combined DOL starter covers 3 to 10 HP; for the Combined star delta starter, only the 7.5–10 HP variant runs on juice line. Above 10 HP, juice line is not safe for the motor, so use 2 phase or 3 phase supply.

What warranty do I get, and where can I get service?

One year from the date of sale against manufacturing defects, covering the MPAU unit inside the starter, and six months on capacitors. Service is available at our sales and service centres across Karnataka.

Which starter runs a 15 HP or 20 HP motor on 2 phase supply?

The FASD-2/3: its 12.5–15 HP, 20 HP and 25 HP variants run double cable 3 phase motors on 2 phase or 3 phase supply. Juice line is only for the 7.5–10 HP variant, because running a bigger motor on juice line is not safe.

Does the star delta changeover work on 2 phase supply too?

Yes. On 3 phase and on 2 phase supply alike, the motor starts in star to keep the starting current low, then switches to delta for full power, and all the protections keep working, so the motor is protected from burning.

Will it work with my Texmo, CRI or Kirloskar motor?

Yes. It works with double cable 3 phase submersible and borewell motors of any brand, for example Texmo, CRI or Kirloskar, as long as the motor's HP and cable match the variant you choose, and it protects the motor from burning just the same.

What is the price of a 2 phase star delta starter?

The price depends on the HP variant, and the capacitors are extra. We don't show prices online: call or WhatsApp us with your motor's HP and we'll give you all the details.
